Hi,

I recently got this idea that instead of everybody logging on to http://results.vtu.ac.in for checking results, and thereby overloading the website, it would have been better if VTU would've sent everyone's results to their e-mail address.

To find out if this point is actually valid, I have thought of this experiment. Here's what its all about-

  1. Students register on this website with their USN and e-mail ID.
  2. After a certain interval, a script keeps checking if the results are actually out.
  3. The moment the results come out, the script downloads results of everybody in the list and saves it.
  4. Because step 3 occurs just after the results have been published, it gets all the results without overloading the server.
  5. Another script, running simultaneously checks all the results that have been downloaded, and e-mails them to the student.
  6. The script on step 5 remembers which students the mail has been sent, so it doesn't resend them.

This is the first time I'm doing this, and I feel confident that the scheme will work, and hence will help both the students, and to the VTU results server which doesn't have to serve redundant requests.

However, note that like any experiment, there is a small chance of things not working as expected. In this case, I'll diagnose the problem, and try again next time.

Privacy note-
